NAD+ is the star molecule of the longevity market. But between NMN, NR and vitamin B3, not every ingredient is permitted in Europe. Here is how to build a formula that sells and stays compliant.

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme present in every cell. It is involved in converting nutrients into energy and in many cellular mechanisms. Research shows that its level falls with age, hence the “longevity” market’s interest in molecules that can support its production.
NAD+ itself is rarely used as such in supplements. Formulators instead use its precursors: molecules the body converts into NAD+.
Vitamin B3 is therefore the building block of a compliant NAD+ formula: it allows authorised claims, for example that niacin contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal energy-yielding metabolism (NRV: 16 mg per day).
NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is considered a novel food in Europe. In May 2026, EFSA issued a favourable safety opinion on a specific NMN at 300 mg per day for the general adult population, excluding pregnant and breastfeeding women. Formal authorisation now depends on the European Commission and the Member States. Until it is published, NMN cannot be sold as a food supplement in the EU.
For a brand, this is an opportunity: prepare a formula now, so you are ready on the day of authorisation, with a manufacturer who follows the file closely.

The longevity market is booming. We help you enter it with a formula that is scientifically and regulatorily sound.
Not yet. EFSA issued a favourable opinion in 2026, but the European Commission’s authorisation has not yet been published. In the meantime, NMN cannot be sold as a food supplement.
Both are NAD+ precursors. Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is already authorised as a novel food in Europe; NMN is going through the authorisation process.
In Europe, vitamin B3 (niacin or nicotinamide) is the simplest NAD+ precursor to use, with authorised claims. NR is also permitted under certain conditions.
No. Claims about slowing down ageing are not authorised. Communicate on validated claims instead, such as the reduction of tiredness and fatigue or the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
